H-E-B is building a new grocery store in Fort Worth. Here’s what we know so far
H-E-B has plans to build a new grocery store in a fast growing residential area of far west of Fort Worth.
Construction of a H-E-B location will begin at the corner of FM 3325 and I-20 Service Road in October, in the Walsh area just across the Parker County line, according to permits filed with the state on Tuesday. This will be the second H-E-B in Fort Worth since the Alliance store opened in spring 2024. The Fort Worth city limits extend into Parker County.
The $18 million H-E-B is slated to be complete in December 2026. It is unclear when the almost 128,000 square foot store will open.
“H-E-B is excited to announce that construction will begin on our new Walsh Ranch location around the holiday season. We look forward to sharing more details at a groundbreaking event later this fall,” said H-E-B’s managing director of public affairs Mabrie Jackson.
H-E-B has owned the 19.4-acre property since December 2024. The new store will be almost seven miles east from H-E-B’s Hudson Oaks store, which opened in 2019.
The H-E-B will be a few miles from the residential section of Walsh, a massive development built on a former cattle ranch. About 1,500 homes have been built there so far, and the 7,500-acre property could have up to 4,000 homes and 50,000 residents when fully built out.
Commercial development in the area has historically lagged behind residential construction, though that’s starting to change. The University of Texas at Arlington broke ground on a new campus at the intersection of I-20 and I-30 in Parker County in April. Slated to open in 2028, the campus is expected to serve at least 10,000 students. Worthington Bank plans to build an eight-story tower and new headquarters at the corner of Walsh Ranch Parkway and I-30.
H-E-B has been rapidly growing its footprint in North Texas for years. The San Antonio-based grocer has opened eight new stores in the region since 2022. Seven new locations are under construction across the Metroplex.
One of the largest privately-owned companies in the United States, H-E-B has over 455 stores across Texas and Mexico. H-E-B’s sales were more than $46 billion in 2024.
