Visit Fort Worth launches an online platform to celebrate and promote area artists
It was a room brimming over with love for the city as Visit Fort Worth held its annual meeting and breakfast Friday morning.
The organization that promotes tourism in the city took advantage of the day to make it a love-themed events as it celebrated the accomplishments made over the past year, including the opening of Dickies Arena, the continued redevelopment of the Stockyards and bringing the crew of the movie “12 Mighty Orphans” to film in the city.
But it was also the opportunity to announce the latest effort to promote Fort Worth artists. Hear Fort Worth, a subsidiary of Visit Fort Worth, partnered with the Fort Worth Public Library to launch Amplify 817, a free online music service that will feature Fort Worth area musicians.
So far, the artists featured on the platform are Taylor Pace, Lou CharLe$, Tollay and Jack Barksdale. As the platform grows, more artists will be featured.
In a continued celebration and love of art, music legend T. Bone Burnett gave the keynote address. He spoke of the importance of art and excoriated its commodification.
“Art is not a career. It is a vocation,” he said, “a response to a summons.”
