1 restaurant shut, illegal gambling machines found in Fort Worth health inspections

One Fort Worth restaurant was closed and an illegal gambling operation was discovered inside a liquor store in the most recent round of city health inspections, according to the report.

The report compiled by the Star-Telegram contains data from June 1 through June 14 and 374 inspections.

Fort Worth’s health inspections function on a demerit system: Zero demerits is considered a perfect score, while restaurants with over 30 demerits are required to fix the worst issues immediately and remedy the others within 48 hours.

Uncle Julio’s Mexican From Scratch, 9201 North Freeway, had a score of 20 and was closed because of a lack of hot water in the restaurant.

Gyro & Kabob Grill, 7661 McCart Ave., had a score of 34. The restaurant scored 10 on a follow-up investigation, according to the report.

Investigators found five machines in an illegal game room at Save More Beer and Wine, 2723 Azle Ave.

Nine restaurants were noted to have issues with roaches:

  1. Mexican Inn Cafe, 13155 South Freeway in Burleson, had a score of 20
  2. Noodles @ Boba Tea House, 7355 N. Beach St., had a score of 16
  3. Prima Pasta & Pizza, 6108 S. Hulen St., had a score of 15
  4. Papa John’s #3545, 8455 Boat Club Road, had a score of 13
  5. My Lan Bistro, 9180 North Freeway, had a score of 12
  6. Portillos Hot Dogs, LLC, 8789 Tehama Ridge Parkway, had a score of 12
  7. Nizza Pizza, 8048 Camp Bowie West Blvd., had a score of 10
  8. Holiday Inn Express Fort Worth, 4609 Citylake Blvd. W., had a score of 9
  9. Joe’s Crab Shack #1569, 3040 Western Center Blvd., had a score of 9
