Fort Worth Stockyards gets a new burger hangout with under-$15 combos and more

The newest affordable restaurant in the Stockyards is not just for tourists.

Bronc’s, a grill and bar at 115 W. Exchange Ave., has a simple menu and burger combos for less than $15.

Bronc’s is new, But it’s from a legacy that includes restaurateur Sam Wynne, co-founder of Rodeo Goat.

Burger combos start at $7 for a basic “Leta’s Burger,” named for Texas Trail of Fame Stockyards burger cook Leta Smothermon (1917-2000). A double is $10, or a full-size cheeseburger combo is $12.

But Bronc’s simple menu sparkles with distinctive flavors and sauces: jalapeño cream on sandwiches, pickled hot Fresno peppers, bacon jam with caramelized onions on the classic cheeseburger.

And nowhere on the menu are the flavors as bold as in the chicken hoagie, a Philly-like invention with large chunks of flavorful chopped grilled chicken, jalapeños, jalapeño cream and Fresnos.

This sandwich is so good, you forget it’s chicken.

It’s a remarkable value for $12 with chips or black-peppered “drunken” beans. Other sides include elote and black-eyed pea-based “cowboy caviar.”.

The menu also includes a grilled chicken sandwich, a jalapeño bacon-egg-and-cheese sandwich, a pork belly sandwich and a jalapeño double “Nota Whata” patty melt.

There’s a $7 sausage wrap combo with Fresnos, caramelized onions and Dijon mustard-mayo.

Down a dark stairway is the murky world of Bronc’s Tack Room bar, a cavern with pool tables and the usual Stockyards amusements.

But Bronc’s upstairs is a haven for burgers and an inexpensive Exchange Avenue meal.

The kitchen is open for lunch and dinner daily, until midnight Fridays and Saturdays; 817-766-9235, broncsftw.com.

It’s all a project of Wynne with developers Matt Peterson and Devan Pharis, the team behind Dallas neighborhood hangout Lawnie’s, on North Henderson Avenue east of Central Expressway.
