Popular Dallas burger grill closes suburban Tarrant County restaurants
Snuffer’s Restaurant & Bar, an iconic burger grill from the 1980s nightclub heyday of Dallas’ Greenville Avenue, has closed its only Tarrant County location.
A Snuffer’s closed June 22 at 4717 Colleyville Blvd., Colleyville, leaving seven locations in the Dallas area but no restaurant in Tarrant County for the first time in nearly 20 years.
The same company, Dallas-based Local Favorite Restaurants, also closed a barbecue restaurant in Mansfield, Del Toro BBQ.
The first Snuffer’s in the Fort Worth area opened in 2005 in Southlake, followed by locations near the Arlington Highlands shops and in Colleyville..
Another was planned for Currie Street in the West 7th shops in west Fort Worth but was never built.
The Snuffer’s in Colleyville opened in 2015 near a Whole Foods Market in the Colleyville Downs shopping center.
But the exclusive, mostly residential enclave often struggles to support restaurants. Nearby Euless and Southlake have the population density and/or major highway access needed to draw diners.
Houston native Pat Snuffer opened the first Snuffer’s in 1978 on lower Greenville Avenue, three years after the first Chili’s Grill & Bar opened nearby.
According to Snuffer’s legend, some SMU students first suggested adding bacon to the cheddar cheese fries. That dish became a Snuffer’s signature.
The chain is now owned by the parent of El Fenix Restaurants and Twisted Root Burger.
