New owners, same vibe at popular restaurant on Eagle Mountain Lake in Fort Worth
The Lakehouse is the best Fort Worth-area restaurant on a lake, and the new owners promise it will only get better.
Regular customers Alison Basulto and Cody Lucas have bought the Lakehouse, 9307 Boat Club Road, a bar-and-grill in a 50-year-old marina restaurant with a shaded deck and patio overlooking Eagle Mountain Lake.
As you might imagine, the Lakehouse is showing its age. Like any lake bar-and-grill, it’s gone through summer after summer of nachos and spilled beer, and the beautiful shaded deck and lakeside patio could use some repairs and upgrades.
Lucas says he and Basulto plan some renovations to a restaurant he called “a true landmark in the Lake Country,” the nearby neighborhood.
But he promised that “the culture, music and the fried pickles will never change.”
The Lakehouse is known for those fried pickles, and also for its large fried cheese sticks and for thick cheeseburgers on brioche buns.
From Buffalo wings to tacos
The menu also offers wings, quesadillas, chicken and shrimp tacos, including harder-to-find blackened chicken tacos, quesadillas and salads.
The quesadillas, “lakefire” queso and jalapeno-pepper jack burger have been good choices on past visits.
On a recent weekend, a Buffalo chicken sandwich with blue cheese proved to be a good lunch pick, with a thick fillet and plenty of crumbles to offset the Buffalo spice.
Breakfast is also served daily until 2 p.m., including chorizo-and-egg tacos or quesadillas and a bacon cheeseburger topped with an egg and hash browns.
Delivery to your boat
Lucas said the new owners will update the menu with more fresh-Mex items and will also add delivery and dockside service.
He started his career working in and managing ski resort restaurants and went on to become a software developer.
The music playlist is 1990s alternative rock songs like “No Rain” or “What’s Up?” Bands play weekends, and the weeknights feature the usual run of bar promotions such as a trivia contest on Tuesdays and karaoke Wednesdays.
The Lakehouse is open daily for lunch and dinner; (817) 386-3156, thelakehousefw.com.
