Another jolt to Parker County: A landmark 1950s-style burger drive-in is changing

In the second jolt this week to Parker County, the 1950s-style Malt Shop hamburger drive-in is for sale.

Owner Janie Alice Harrison wrote on Facebook that she has not been able to open regularly and “I have decided that my health is more important at this time so I am in the process of trying to sell The Malt Shop.”

Harrison has an offer and is staying open regular hours Tuesdays through Saturdays while she seeks a buyer, she wrote

The Malt Shop, 2028 Fort Worth Highway, opened in 1958 on U.S. 180 between Weatherford and Hudson Oaks. It remains one of few genuine roadside-Americana drive-ins in America.

The news comes the same week that Hutch’s Pie and Sandwich Shop, 145 College Park Drive, is closing after 90 years of making commercial fried pies and 40 years as a breakfast and lunch restaurant.

The Malt Shop has been open some days lately, offering buy-one-get-one-free burgers on Tuesdays as usual, shrimp basket specials and Frito pies.
