What’s the best soup for a cold or sore throat? In Fort Worth, it’s hot — and sour

Szechuan hot-sour soup for a cold

Hey, Bud! What’s the best soup when you’re sick?

—George, sounding stuffy

I have always sworn by the hot-and-sour soup at Szechuan Restaurant, 5712 Locke Ave., known since 1979 for spicy Sichuan-style Chinese specialties.

Readers tell me to try the chicken soup at tried-and-true Benito’s Mexican Cuisine, 1450 W. Magnolia Ave., and add lots of the fresh pico de gallo.

New owners all around in Stockyards steakhouses

Hey, Bud! I know HG Ranch and the Star Cafe in the Stockyards were sold. Now Cattlemen’s too?

—Mary, Weatherford

The Stockyards land rush has become a steak-knife fight. The Hotel Drover bought the Stockyards Hotel and H3 Ranch. Now, registered agents related to 101 Studios and “Yellowstone” have filed to take over the liquor licenses as new managers of Cattlemen’s and vacant Horseshoe Hill. Restaurateur Felipe Armenta also plans a prime steakhouse near the Hyatt Place.

Joe’s Hangout: pizzas, pastas for east Fort Worth

Hey, Bud! Did you see where a Joe’s opened across from Texas Wesleyan?

—Texas Wesleyan

The much-neglected Wesleyan corridor has a new pizzeria-sports bar. Joe’s Hangout, 3020 E. Rosedale St., is owned by the operator of some Joe’s pizza-and-pasta shops in Carrollton. (There is no single “Joe.” Many different operators use the name for similar restaurants.)
