There’s another new Heim BBQ coming soon. This one’s west of Fort Worth
Heim Barbecue, which grew from a small craft barbecue trailer to a Texas barbecue empire, will open a fifth restaurant next year in Hudson Oaks, Travis Heim announced Monday.
A new 5,000-square-foot restaurant with a patio and beer garden will open on Cinema Drive at Interstate 20, Heim said.
That’s about a mile west of the U.S. 180 exit, or 25 miles west of downtown Fort Worth.
It’s the first large-scale contemporary barbecue restaurant in Parker County, a market dominated for now by a local outpost of Dallas-based Baker’s Ribs, menu items at the Mesquite Pit steakhouse in Weatherford and a Railhead Smokehouse in Willow Park.
“A lot of people have moved here, and they’re looking for something new,” said Dan Woods, pitmaster of a competing craft barbecue stand, Tailgaters BBQ at 321 E. Oak St. in Weatherford.
Coincidentally, Tailgaters operates out of Heim’s and Panther City BBQ’s original trailer, now alongside a local brewhouse.
Woods had been competing in barbecue contests for years when he opened the stand in 2021.
He welcomed Heim on Facebook, posting that the new restaurant is “great for the local economy! They will build a first-class venue and do well.”
Heim, known for candied pork belly “bacon burnt ends,” has expanded its menu in recent years to include burgers, smoked chicken, house-made corny dogs and breakfast tacos or biscuit sandwiches with brisket, burnt ends or sausage.
Heim made the honorable mention list last year when Texas Monthly listed the state’s Top 50 barbecue restaurants, but it ranked among the very best of places open seven days a week serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The original 2014 food truck opened in the East Hattie Street/East Pennsylvania Avenue location that is now Panther City.
The flagship Heim opened in 2017 as a full-scale restaurant and bar at 1109 W. Magnolia Ave., followed by a RIver District location at 5333 White Settlement Road.
A newer Heim in Dallas is undergoing repairs at 3130 W. Mockingbird Lane, and another Heim is under construction in Burleson at 135 W. Ellison St.
