New dining for the new year
After a 2021 COVID-19 spike kept pro rodeo cowboys sidelined and slowed the opening of the new Stockyards entertainment district, major chef-driven restaurants are now under construction across Fort Worth.

From a farewell soiree at Fred’s Texas Cafe to a $250 dinner at Fearing’s, Texans have a range of choices to ring out that stinky 2021 and get on with 2022.
Fred’s, a tumbledown burger grill from the 1980s, will host a “Final Farewell” party beginning at 11 a.m. and lasting through 1 a.m. New Year’s Day.
By then, the regulars should be well-fueled enough to hoist Fred’s on their shoulders and carry it to its new home on Camp Bowie Boulevard.
Sam Anderson of Quaker City Night Hawks and singer Claire Hinkle are expected to join her father’s James Hinkle Band onstage as Fred’s raises money for the Dallas-based Meat Fight charity battling multiple sclerosis.
A 10:30 p.m. raffle will begin a monthlong sale of bar stools, booths and anything that isn’t moving from the current location, 915 Currie St., to the new Fred’s at 7101 Camp Bowie Blvd. W.
Fred’s also will host a day-after-Christmas show Dec. 26 and a special Tommy Alverson-Stefan Prigmore singer-songwriter show Dec. 30.
The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner daily through New Year’s Eve; 817-332-0083. (A second location continues at 2730 Western Center Blvd.)
