Yelp listed small local favorites

Hey, Bud! What’s up with that Yelp list of the top 100 Texas restaurants? Never heard of any of them. Where’s Mi Tierra, Franklin Barbecue, all the great places?

—Alan, Fort Worth

Yelp listed its users’ 100 highest-scored restaurants. So if everybody on Yelp loves a little place like Del Campo Empanadas in Fort Worth or Colossal Sandwich Shop in Bedford — and they do — then it made the list.

Tommy Tamale in Grapevine and Keller made the top 10 again. Other Fort Worth listings: Hatsuyuki Handroll Bar, Coco Shrimp, Sikhay Thai Lao Cuisine, Taste Community Restaurant.

Still waiting on Mexican Inn Cafe

Hey, Bud! What’s up with the Mexican Inn Cafe on Henderson at the White Settlement Road bridge?

—Mark, Fort Worth

Good question. Remodeling continues on the oldest remaining Mexican Inn Cafe, getting a fresh look to go with the new look of Henderson Street and White Settlement Road. Labor and materials shortages have put everything in slow motion, so try another of the nine locations.

The Henderson location opened April 28, 1949, just in time to get inundated by the city’s worst flood. (The oldest Mexican Inn building is actually the 1605 Eighth Ave. location, which was built in 1938 as a retail spot and opened in 1948 as Casa Linda restaurant.)
