A pizza party place comes to west Fort Worth. And maybe a Heim BBQ stromboli?
The groundbreaking made it official: Hulen Street is getting its own artisan pizzeria.
Zoli’s NY Pizza, the New York-style pizza cousin to Neapolitan-style Cane Rosso, is building a 5,000-square-foot restaurant plus patio a few blocks south of Central Market.
It’s a different pizza from Cane Rosso’s — for one thing, it’s crispy — but just as much fun, with a Cow Tipping Creamery ice cream shop alongside.
Cane Rosso showcases Heim Barbecue brisket and “burnt ends” and Melt Ice Creams, and founder Jay Jerrier said Zoli’s will also feature local flavor.
“I’ve been dreaming about a Black Forest cake stacker and shake ever since we signed the lease,” Jerrier said.
The Swiss Pastry Shop, home of Fort Worth’s all-time favorite Black Forest cake, is one mile east.
“Maybe a Heim Barbecue stromboli?” Jerrier asked.
By the time Zoli’s opens next spring, Heim’s new west side location should be open at 5333 White Settlement Road near the West Fork bridge.
Zoli’s will serve both New York pizza and Sicilian square pizzas along with burgers and an “East Coast” menu.
The current Addison location, an expansion from the now-gone Oak Cliff original, serves chicken Parmesan, chicken fettuccine, roasted chicken and even a ditalini bolognese. Yes, like Spaghetti-O’s.
Chef Jeff Bekavac was with Neighborhood Services and Off Site Kitchen in Dallas before joining Jerrier, so the menu has grown far beyond pizza.
As our Robert Philpot wrote last spring, the restaurant will have a striking design. It will be a “hangar, barracks type of structure with a cool curved roof” and a large patio and family play yard, Jerrier said.
The location is 3501 Hulen St., on the corner at Houghton Avenue.
Cane Rosso is open for lunch and dinner daily at 815 W. Magnolia Ave., Fort Worth; 817-922-9222, canerosso.com/fort-worth/
