Abundance of gnats and roaches found during Plano restaurant health inspections
Four Plano restaurants had emergency closures due to sewage and grease-trap issues, and insects were seen at other eateries during a recent round of city health inspections, according to the inspection reports.
Plano’s city health inspections function on a 100-point system: A score of 100 is considered perfect and a score of 70 is considered to be extremely poor.
The reports compiled by the Star-Telegram contain health violation data from 108 inspections between June 28 and July 4.
Four restaurants in the same building had emergency closures due to grease-trap and sanitary-sewage overflows and were reopened following follow-up inspections:
- Hai Yu at 2001 Coit Road, Suite 155. Score: 100.
- Spice House at 2001 Coit Road, Suite 142. Score: 100.
- Yomie’s Rice X Yogurt at 2001 Coit Road, Suite 157A. Score: 100.
- Yatai Ramen Japanese Izakaya at 2001 Coit Road, Suite 140. Score: 100.
Two restaurants had low scores:
- Chen’s Restaurant at 2220 Coit Road, Suite 430. Score: 78.
- Mi Bella Guatemala at 2360 E. Park Blvd., Suite 204. Score: 79.
One restaurant had a roach problem:
Happy Lamb Hot Pot at 240 Legacy Drive, Suite 116. Health inspectors observed one small roach-like insect crawling from the mop sink to under the nearby prep table. Score: 92.
Restaurant with other violations:
- HEB Central Market at 320 Coit Road temporarily closed its dish pit after inspectors found wastewater from a three-compartment sink spilling and overflowing onto the floor. Inspectors noted that the dish pit reopened after a pipe was installed or repaired so that the waste could drain properly. Score 89.
- J.S. Chen’s Dim Sum & BBQ at 240 Legacy Drive Suite 118. During a follow-up inspection small insects were observed and killed in the walk-in cooler. The restaurant also had made only a few requested corrections and the kitchen floor remained a major issue requiring a written correction plan. Score 95.
- Renaissance Dallas - Catering at 6007 Legacy Drive. Health inspectors reported an abundance of gnats flying around the dry-storage and food-equipment closet areas. The establishment was asked to eliminate the problem within seven days. Score: 92.
