Roaches, fecal matter found during Fort Worth inspections; 1 restaurant closed
Roaches, fecal matter and dirty floors were found at Fort Worth food establishments during June 28-July 4 health inspections, and one restaurant was closed, according to data from the city compiled by the Star-Telegram.
Fat Shack at 2858 W. Berry St. scored 12 on July 2. Some employees hadn’t completed an accredited food-handler course, food in the reach-in cooler wasn’t marked or labeled, and the inspector noticed gnats and four roaches in the kitchen.
The city closed the facility until the problem with the roaches could be taken care of.
Fort Worth uses a demerit system, with zero being a perfect score. Restaurants that receive more than 30 demerits are required to immediately fix the most critical violations and start corrective procedures on all the other violations within 48 hours.
No establishments scored over 30 during this round of inspections, but a convenience store received a warning for insufficient hot water.
Wayne’s Grocery Corp. scored 20 on June 29. The inspector found droppings by the ice cream freezer, fecal matter on the toilet and dirty floors throughout the facility. The hot water temperature only reached 95 degrees, according to the report. The store was instructed to fix the hot water issue or face possible closure.
Caribou Coffee at 2800 Basswood Blvd. and Chili’s Grill and Bar at 6350 N. Freeway received a perfect score of zero.
