Roaches, rodent droppings found during Tarrant County restaurant inspections
Inspectors observed rodent droppings and roaches in Tarrant County food establishments during the latest round of county health inspections, according to the inspection reports.
Tarrant County’s health inspections function on a demerit system where a score of 100 is considered perfect and a score of 70 is considered extremely poor. Tarrant County Public Health inspects all restaurants and food establishments in the county except for those in Fort Worth, Arlington, Euless and North Richland Hills.
This report compiled by the Star-Telegram contains health violations from 228 inspections between May 24 and June 6.
At Kwik Pik Food Mart, 5304 Mansfield Highway in Forest Hill, health inspectors observed severe rodent droppings in cabinets below the soda fountain, where individually packaged coffee creamers, sugar and coffee were also stored. The store scored 78 after a follow-up inspection.
In addition to Kwik Pik Food Mart, rodent droppings were found at:
Texaco Mart at 1409 S. Cherry Lane in White Settlement. Health inspectors found rodent droppings under the soda fountain and unclean traps. The mart scored 89.
Fire other restaurants revived a low score during this inspection cycle:
- Best Western Plus at 3230 Forest Hill Circle in Forest Hill. Score: 69.
- El Sombrero Restaurante at 316 S. Saginaw Blvd. in Saginaw. Score: 76.
- Kountry Donuts at 102 S. Main St. in Grapevine. Score: 76.
- Amy’s Café at 477 Harwood Road in Hurst. Score: 78.
- Eagles Point Bar & Grill at 1029 N. Saginaw Blvd., Suite 119, in Saginaw. Score: 79.
Two establishments had violations related to roaches:
- Avianos Pizza Pasta And Subs at 601 N. Cherry Lane in White Settlement. Heath inspectors observed several dead American roaches under the soda fountain and in the back utility closet. Score 89.
- Quality Inn at 3232 SE Loop 820 in Forest Hill. Inspectors found a dead German roach under the hand sink in the kitchen in the cabinet. Score 92.
One eatery had violation related to food holding temperature:
Kountry Donuts at 102 S. Main St. in Grapevine. Inspectors found a cold-holding unit was not keeping foods at 41 degrees or below, including roughly 75 pounds of cheddar sausages at 79 degrees. Score 76.
