Roaches, water issues found at Fort Worth restaurants during health inspections
A childcare center near Fort Worth was temporarily closed during May 24-30 health inspections due to insufficient hot water, and two restaurants received high scores for multiple violations, according to data from the city compiled by the Star-Telegram.
Fort Worth uses a demerit system, with zero being a perfect score.
Childcare Network at 285 Old Highway 1187 in Burleson received a near-perfect score of four on May 29. The only problem noted was that two of the sinks didn’t have sufficient hot water. The facility was closed for a short time until the water issue could be fixed.
Restaurants that receive more than 30 demerits are required to immediately fix the most critical violations and start corrective procedures on all the other violations within 48 hours. No establishments scored more than 30 demerits during this round of inspections, but one restaurant came close.
Anh Long Kitchen at 3789 Beach St. scored 28 on May 29. The inspector found cooked noodles at an unsafe temperature, raw meat stored above ready-to-eat foods, employees without an accredited food-handler certificate and residue inside the soda machine nozzles.
Muchacho Alegre at 2250 Jacksboro Highway scored 25 on May 29. There was insufficient hot water at one of the sinks, some beans and salsa were stored without date markings, and a beverage container was found on the floor in the walk-in cooler.
Takara Japanese Restaurant at 3088 Basswood Blvd. scored 24 on May 28. The inspector found diced tuna at an unsafe temperature and raw beef stored above some avocados. The issue with the tuna was corrected onsite, according to the report.
Pan Asia at 5913 Donnelly Ave. scored 19 on May 28. Sushi, raw fish and cooked chicken were held at an unsafe temperature, and some of the coolers didn’t have thermometers.
Roaches were found at four establishments:
- JMN Chicken Mart at 6150 Ramey Ave.
- Subway at 7818 South Freeway
- Uncle Julio’s at 5301 Camp Bowie Blvd.
- Educational Catering at 5301 Campus Drive
Two facilities, including Kroger at 9114 Camp Bowie West Blvd. and Hearing Lab Technology-Insight Vending at 14301 FAA Blvd., received a perfect score of zero.
