Plano restaurant closed after cockroach infestation during recent inspection

Three Plano restaurants were temporarily closed for various health violations, including a cockroach infestation at one location, according to the inspection report.

Plano’s city health inspections function on a 100-point system: a score of 100 is considered perfect and a score of 70 is considered to be extremely poor. Each establishment receives between one and four routine inspections per year.

The report compiled by the Star-Telegram contains data from April 26 through May 2 and 87 inspections.

Three restaurants were temporarily closed:

Sichuanese Cuisine at 2001 Coit Road, Suite 315 was temporarily closed due to gross and unsanitary conditions. Health inspectors also found two dead cockroaches near the back of the front entrance of the kitchen and the water heater room in the kitchen. The restaurant scored 67. After the indicated corrective action was made, the establishment reopened and the food permit was reinstated.

Taco Bell at 150 W. Parker Road was temporarily closed after health inspectors asked to clean grease traps. The restaurant was also ordered to check the entire plumbing system and keep the facility closed until approval to reopen was obtained from the City of Plano health department. The food chain then scored 100.

Mauro’s Grill And Cafe at 2719 W. 15th St. was temporarily closed due to a cockroach infestation in the kitchen, with more than 30 cockroaches present. Health inspectors asked the restaurant to remain closed until a licensed pest control operator performed a full treatment, affected areas were cleaned and sanitized, food contact surfaces disinfected, pest harborage conditions like cracks, crevices, debris accumulation and moisture sources were corrected, and evidence of effective pest control provided.

One restaurant was reopened during this inspection cycle:

Andrew’s American Pizza Kitchen at 1401 Preston Road. The food permit for the eatery was reinstated after hot water was fixed, with a score of 56.

Five other restaurants received a low score:

  • Mi Bandera at 1405 Jupiter Road, Suite 112. Score: 74.
  • Jusgo Supermarket at 240 Legacy Drive, Suite 200. Score: 75.
  • Lucky City at 3215 Independence Parkway. Score: 76.
  • La Michoacana at 1409 Jupiter Road, Suite 102. Score: 78.
  • Katy Trail Ice House Outpost at 4700 W. Park Blvd. Score: 79.
