Rodent droppings found at Everman child care center during health inspection

An Everman child care center has been approved to prepare food again after rodent droppings were found during Oct. 12-25 health inspections, according to Tarrant County data compiled by the Star-Telegram.

Tarrant County Public Health has transitioned to a new inspection report format. A perfect score was 0 demerits under the old system. The new system considers 100 as the highest possible score, and 70 is considered extremely poor. Restaurants and other places that serve food scoring below 70 require a follow-up inspection.

Love and Grace Childcare and Learning Center at 510 N. Race St. received a low score of 78 on Oct. 14. There was insufficient hot water at the hand sink and three-compartment sink, and the inspector found mouse and rat droppings in the kitchen and pantry. Some rat poison pellets and sticky pads were being used to treat the problem.

Staff were required to clean and sanitize the kitchen immediately and arrange for a licensed pest control operator to service the facility within 24 hours. Only prepackaged snacks were allowed to be served.

The child care center scored 90 during a follow-up inspection the next day, but rat and mouse droppings were found under the stove and other locations in the kitchen. The facility received a high score of 96 on Oct. 17 and was approved for full operations, including preparing and serving food.

A spokesperson for the daycare didn’t directly address the issue of the rodent droppings when reached by phone Friday. He said the inspector had found a bag in the kitchen that wasn’t supposed to be there. Workers replaced a part in the hot water heater, which had led to the problem with insufficient hot water, he said.

Five different facilities were inspected from Oct. 12-25, with the following health violations cited:

Shax Food Store at 1725 Everman Parkway scored 86 on Oct. 21. The inspector found particle growth on the ice guard of the ice maker, dirty walls and floors in the two walk-in freezers and insufficient hot water at the hand sink and three-compartment sink.

Dollar General Store at 1909 Everman Parkway scored 93 on Oct. 21. Some containers of milk in the self-serve refrigerator were dirty. Debris was found on the floor under shelves and equipment, and some food had spilled in the ice cream freezer and on the Gatorade shelf.

Hickory Stick Bar-B-Q at 900 E. Enon Ave. and Texas Donut at 111 N. Forest Hill Lane both received nearly perfect scores of 99.

Here are the inspection scores and violations for restaurants/food establishments in Everman that Tarrant County Public Health (TCPH) inspected for Oct. 12 - Oct. 25th, 2025. TCPH inspects and scores all restaurants in Tarrant County except for those located in Fort Worth, Arlington, Euless and North Richland Hills. Scores are based on a 100-point scale. When the score is below 70, a follow-up inspection is required. To search the restaurant inspections, type in a keyword or restaurant name. You can also sort by score.
