Roaches, rodent droppings, ants found in Tarrant restaurant health inspections
Two Tarrant County restaurants were temporarily closed after multiple roaches were found during the June 29-July 12 health inspections, according to data from the county compiled by the Star-Telegram.
Green Tea House at 645 Harwood Road in Bedford scored 73 on July 9. The inspector noticed several roaches inside the flour container and live and dead roaches throughout the restaurant. The business voluntarily closed and will have to undergo pest control treatment.
Master Wok inside the North East Mall at 1101 Melbourne Road in Hurst scored 83 on July 9. Multiple dead cockroaches were found inside the eatery, and several live roaches were found near the back door and walk-in cooler. The restaurant voluntarily closed and will require a follow-up inspection to reopen.
Tarrant County Public Health has transitioned to a new inspection report format. A perfect score was 0 demerits under the old system. The new system considers 100 as the highest possible score, and 70 is considered extremely poor. Restaurants scoring below 70 require a follow-up inspection.
No restaurant/food establishment scored below 70 during the recent inspections, but some were close.
Dragon House at 2640 E. Southlake Blvd. in Southlake scored 70 on July 8. The inspector found health violations including food stored at an unsafe temperature; noodles, oil and soy sauce stored on the floor; and a buildup of grime on the can opener blade.
Dragon House scored 75 during a July 9 follow-up inspection.
China Flag at 1453 N. Saginaw Blvd. in Saginaw scored 74 on July 8. The restaurant permit wasn’t posted in public view, no soap was available at the sushi handwashing sink and there was no consumer advisory for the sushi and other raw or undercooked items sold by the restaurant.
China Town Restaurant at 1725 Airport Freeway in Bedford scored 74 on July 7. The inspector found black particles in the soda nozzles, a fly trap above the dish storage area, and dirty walls and ceilings.
Bellissimo Italian Restaurant at 3809 Colleyville Blvd. in Colleyville scored 87 on July 8. The inspector noticed rodent droppings behind the can rack. Not all employees had valid food handler certificates and some food was stored without a date marking.
Several restaurants, in addition to the two that were closed, had problems with roaches.
- Tolberts at 423 S. Main St. in Grapevine scored 76 on July 6. Roaches were seen above a sink in the back of the kitchen. A buildup of black grime was found on the soda gun spout and employee drinks were lying around the kitchen and prep area.
- Shatila Restaurant at 2349 W. Pioneer Pkwy. in Pantego scored 81 on July 6. The inspector found multiple large, dead cockroaches and several live ants. There was also no certified food manager on site during the inspection.
- Bedford Generations Park at 2801 Forest Ridge Drive in Bedford received a high score of 96 on July 1, but the inspector noticed roach droppings in one of the drawers.
- A dead cockroach was also found in the drain behind the bar of Dragon House at 2640 E. Southlake Blvd. in Southlake. The bar at the facility received a nearly perfect score of 98 on July 8.
Tarrant County Public Health inspects and scores all restaurants in the county except for those in Fort Worth, Arlington, Euless and North Richland Hills.
