Two Frisco restaurants close, one fails in latest health inspections
The latest round of health inspections in Frisco includes two restaurant closures and one of those restaurants failing its inspection.
The inspection reports, which were compiled by Star-Telegram, contain data and health violations from June 22-June 28 and results of 25 restaurant inspections.
Frisco uses a demerit system for health inspections, mirroring the Texas Department of State Health Services. The city’s form assesses 47 items, each with a demerit value (1-3) based on severity. Lower scores indicate higher compliance, with zero demerits being a perfect score. A food establishment fails if it receives more than 30 demerits.
If a restaurant scores 31 or higher, the health inspector may close the business at his or her discretion. This decision is based on the nature of the violations, the eatery’s history of compliance, and other risk factors. Certain violations may require an establishment to immediately close, whether or not the score adds up to 31.
Two restaurants were temporarily closed in this round due to serious health violations:
Desi District, 2275 University Drive. Score: 44 - Desi District failed its inspection and was cited for serious food safety violations, including improper hot and cold holding temperatures and dirty food-contact surfaces such as can openers, microwaves, and the interior of the ice machine. The restaurant must correct all priority and priority foundation items, pay re-inspection fee and call for re-inspection.
Beans & Bubbles, 2552 Stonebrook Parkway 202. Score: 17 - The restaurant was closed due to “no active managerial control,” according to the report. The food manager certification was verified on June 23. Beans & Bubbles was cited for unsafe cold food holding temperatures, lack of hot water at the three-compartment sink, and a manager who was unable to demonstrate adequate food safety knowledge.
