5 restaurants closed, rodents and roaches found at others in Fort Worth health inspections

Five Fort Worth restaurants were temporarily closed and several others had issues with rodents and roaches, according to the city’s latest health inspections report.

The report compiled by the Star-Telegram contains city data from March 2-March 15 and 424 inspections.

Fort Worth’s restaurant inspections function on a demerit system: Zero demerits is considered a perfect score. Restaurants with over 30 demerits are required to fix the worst issues immediately and remedy the rest within 48 hours.

Five restaurants were closed for serious health violations:

  1. El Rincon Maracocho, located at 9094 Camp Bowie West Blvd., had a score of 31 and was closed due to unsanitary conditions.
  2. Taqueria Guelaquetza, located at 400 Vaughn Boulevard, had a score of 27 and was closed due to sewage issues and problems with the restaurant’s grease trap.
  3. Hitching Post Grocery, located at 5101 Wilbarger St., had a score of 23 and was closed due to issues with the business’ hot water.
  4. Rincon Lagunero, located at 2720 Pearl Ave., had a score of 22 and was closed due to issues with the restaurant’s hot water.
  5. Don Taco, located at 301 S. Sylvania Ave., had a score of 9 and was closed due to a sink leaking into a hallway.

Six restaurants received over 30 demerits and were required to fix their worst violations immediately:

  1. New York Pizza Pasta, located at 4750 Bryant Irvin Road, had a score of 39
  2. Yummy Buffet, located at 215 Northeast 28th St., had a score of 35
  3. Mk’S Sushi Restaurant, located at 2901 Fair Drive, had a score of 32
  4. Byblos Lebanese Restaurant, located at 1406 N. Main St., had a score of 31
  5. El Rincon Maracocho, located at 9094 Camp Bowie West Blvd, had a score of 31
  6. Happy Drunking Crab, located at 2423 Clinton Ave., had a score of 31

Multiple restaurants were also cited for having issues with rodents:

  1. Waynes Grocery Corporation, located at 1704 Vaughn Blvd., was cited for rodent droppings on a shelf and around electrical panels. Another kitchen at the location was cited for mouse droppings on containers.
  2. Union Gospel Mission, located at 1321 E. Lancaster Ave., was cited for rat droppings in an employee locker room and under a prep table.
  3. Chadracom African Market, located at 3063 Mansfield Highway, was cited for rat droppings observed on food items and throughout the establishment.

Twelve restaurants underwent follow-up inspections and 14 were cited for issues with roaches.
