1 Tarrant County restaurant temporarily closed; rodent droppings, roaches found at others
One restaurant was temporarily closed, and roaches and rodent droppings were found at others during recent health inspections in Tarrant County, records show.
There were 333 inspections conducted between Feb. 2 and Feb. 15. Over 100 schools were inspected in this cycle, according to county data compiled by the Star-Telegram.
Tarrant County Public Health is transitioning to a new inspection report format. Under the old system, a perfect score was 0 demerits. The new system considers 100 as the highest possible score, which indicates no violations.
Mar Cosina Tex Mex To Gourmet at 3 Village Circle 108 in Westlake was voluntarily closed due to lack of refrigeration. The restaurant ceased all operations including food preparation until it received approval to reopen by county public health inspectors. The restaurant scored 77 and is now open.
One restaurant received a score under 70 during this cycle. Restaurants receiving under 70 require a follow-up inspection.
Master Wok at 1101 Melbourne Road 2304 in Hurst scored 66 after health inspectors found multiple health violations including cross contamination, employees without the required food handler certificates, lack of proper dates and labels on food items, and dead roaches under the register, among others.
The following violations were found at some of the schools that were inspected:
Woodland Springs Elementary at 12121 Woodland Springs Drive, in Keller ISD, where health inspectors observed mouse droppings in the ware-washing area. Score: 92.
Eagle Heights Elementary at 6595 Lucerne Drive in Azle. Several dead crickets and cockroaches were found by health inspectors. Score: 96.
Bruce Shulkey Elementary at 5533 Whitman Ave., in Fort Worth ISD. Inspectors noted that food was not being held at proper temperature. Score: 93.
Natha Howell Elementary at 1324 Kings Highway, Haltom City (Fort Worth ISD). The cafeteria had inadequate hot water at the time of inspection on Feb. 4. If water was not reaching proper temperatures by the next morning, the school was advised to get sack lunches from a different campus. Score: 93.
WA Meacham Middle School at 3600 Weber Ave. in Fort Worth ISD. The kitchen had drainage problems in compartment sinks on the day of inspection. If the issue would not be fixed by the morning of Feb. 17, the school was advised to get sack lunches from a different campus. Score: 97.
