Weevils, roaches found in Tarrant County restaurant inspections. 2 closed for violations
Two Tarrant County food establishments were temporarily closed for health violations during the July 14-Aug. 3 inspections, including a roach and weevil infestation, according to data from the county compiled by the Star-Telegram.
Potato King at 6611 Baker Blvd. in Richland Hills was closed July 23 due to an expired mobile permit and inadequate power supply from a faulty generator. The food truck will have to undergo another inspection at the mobile permit site.
Viet Tofu at 4045 E. Belknap St. in Haltom City was closed July 30 after the inspector saw a live roach crawling on food held on a steam table. The inspector also found multiple live and dead roaches in the front area and weevils inside bags of salt and MSG. The establishment scored 11 demerits.
Wendy’s at 1509 Brown Trail in Bedford scored 19 demerits and was temporarily closed during the inspection so food could be moved out of malfunctioning cooling units.
Little Caesar’s at 6358 Lake Worth Blvd. in Lake Worth scored 13 demerits. A $20 late permit fee had to be paid by the next day to avoid being closed. There was also no certified food manager on duty.
At least two establishments had repeat violations.
Al’s Crossroads at 3953 FM 1187 in Crowley scored 20 demerits. The inspector noted a repeat violation of eggs being stored at room temperature. The food manager on duty also couldn’t answer basic questions related to sanitizer or food storage.
Lisa’s Chicken at 628 E. Pipeline Road in Hurst scored 13 demerits. The inspector found a repeat violation of chicken and fish thawing at room temperature.
Roaches or roach droppings were found at multiple locations, including Lupe’s Tex Mex at 2122 Rufe Snow Drive in Keller, Bun Dong Ba at 4023 E Belknap St. in Haltom City, Tri-Cities Baseball Association at 601 Precinct Line Road in Hurst and 2200 Norwood Drive in Hurst, BC at 4045 E. Belknap St. in Haltom City and Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill and Bar at 6301 Lake Worth Blvd. in Lake Worth.
Flies or gnats were also observed at several establishments, including Mid City African Market at 504 E. Pipeline Road in Hurst, Kobe Steakhouse and Sushi at 6302 Lake Worth Blvd. in Lake Worth, Mariscos La Marea at 4033 E. Belknap St. in Haltom City, Monique Bakery at 4608 Denton Highway in Haltom City, Latte Factory at 3000 Grapevine Mills Parkway in Grapevine, Admirals Club at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, Best Texas Taco Saginaw LLC at 1080 S. Blue Mound Road in Saginaw, Smoothie King at 8907 Benbrook Blvd. in Benbrook, Walmart Super Center at 1732 Precinct Line Road in Hurst, Del Frisco Grille at 1200 E. Southlake Blvd. in Southlake, Ms. Piggy’s Catering Good Times Rolling at 600 Seals Rd in Bartonville and Cristina’s Fine Mex Restaurant at 2707 E. Southlake Blvd in Southlake.
Tarrant County Public Health inspects all restaurants in Tarrant County except those located in Arlington, Euless, Fort Worth and North Richland Hills.
