Mouse droppings, roaches found at Fort Worth restaurants. 2 closed for serious violations

Two Fort Worth restaurants were temporarily closed for serious health violations, including rodent droppings and roaches, during July 14-27 inspections, according to data from the city compiled by the Star-Telegram.

La Madeleine at 4626 S.W. Loop 820 scored 21 and was closed by the city July 18. The inspector noticed sewage backing out of the floor drains and found food stored at an unsafe temperature.

Mitchell Food Store at 2921 Mitchell Blvd. received a high score of 33 and was closed by the city July 25. The inspector found chicken wings with a rancid smell, a dead roach on the floor and mouse droppings in the storage area.

Restaurants that receive more than 30 demerits are required to immediately fix the most critical violations and start corrective procedures on all the other violations within 48 hours.

Four other restaurants scored close to 30.

Los Juanitos at 3221 Mansfield Highway scored 29. The health permit was expired, a certified food protection manager wasn’t available at the time of the inspection and no soap was available at the handwashing sinks.

Taqueria Nuevo Leon at 1544 Ellis Ave. also scored 29. The food protection manager’s license was expired and some meat wasn’t properly thawed.

McCart Service Center at 5600 McCart Ave. scored 27. The inspector found several dead crickets behind the prep table, food wasn’t stored at a safe temperature and some food handler certifications had expired.

La Playa Maya Northside at 1540 N. Main St. scored 26. The inspector noticed black organic matter on the ice machine, some raw food was uncovered in the refrigerator and dust had accumulated on some kitchen air vents.

Roaches were found at several establishments, including Carniceria La Altena at 3316 E. Lancaster Ave., House of Korea Sam Won Garden at 5201 McCart Ave., Mercado Juarez at 1651 E Northside Drive and Chick-fil-A at 4913 Bryant Irvin Road.

Flies or gnats were found at multiple locations, including Papa Johns at 7832 Crowley Road, La Sylvania Food Store at 803 N Sylvania Ave., Tacon Ganas Express at 6804 Randol Mill Road, The Point on Lake Worth at 1349 Bomber Road, Roy Pope Grocery at 2300 Merrick St., Maestro Tacos at 3011 Bledsoe St., Payless Fuel/Riverside at 350 N. Riverside Drive, Don Artemio at 3268 W 7th St., Szechuan Chinese Restaurant at 5712 Locke Ave., Jack in the Box at 3209 E. Belknap St., MOD Pizza at 9605 Ten Gallon Drive, Panda Express at 8601 Anderson Blvd., Quick Pick 2 at 4036 W Vickery Blvd., Little Caesars Pizza at 4729 River Oaks Blvd., Wingstop at 6208 Camp Bowie Blvd., 6333 Cafe at 6333 Camp Bowie Blvd., Chick-fil-A at 3580 Altamesa Blvd., Texas Roadhouse at 12301 South Freeway in Burleson, Buffalo Bros at 415 Throckmorton St., Topgolf Fort Worth at 2201 E. 4th St. and McDonald’s at 3601 Camp Bowie Blvd.

Three restaurants out of the 220 inspected received a perfect score of zero demerits: In-N-Out Burger at 4620 S. Hulen St., Marche Bleu at 5256 Marathon Ave. and Reata Restaurant at 3004 Cullen St.
