2 Arlington restaurants closed by inspectors; 1 had roaches, grossly unsanitary conditions

An Arlington restaurant was shut down because of roaches and “grossly unsanitary conditions,” health inspectors said.

Sixty-one establishments that serve food were inspected from March 27 through April 1. Two restaurants were closed by inspectors on March 31: Thuy Nguyen Cafe, located at 100 W Pioneer Parkway, and Thrill’s Turkey Legs, located at 1904 Baird Farm Road.

Thuy Nguyen Cafe scored a 65 on the city’s 100-point system, where a score of 100 is a perfect score and 70 and below is considered extremely poor.

Aimee Rockhill, a health services manager for the City of Arlington, said the restaurant remained closed Thursday afternoon after being shut down on March 31.

“They were closed to grossly unsanitary conditions and roach infestation. They are actively working with a pest control company to remediate the infestation and will be required to do a deep cleaning before they can pass inspection for reopening,” Rockhill said. “My inspector reinspected them (Thursday). They’ve made progress but they still are not quite ready for reopening to the public.”

Thrill’s Turkey Legs scored a 98 and was only shut down due to an issue with hot water, a manager at the restaurant said. The restaurant reopened the next day.

Two other restaurants, alongside Thuy Nguyen Cafe, scored below a 75 – requiring a re-inspection. Habaneros Tacos, located at 2100 E. Lamar Blvd., scored a 72, and La Nueva Michoacana Paleteria Neveria, located at 1509 New York Ave., scored a 73.

A total of 11 restaurants required followup inspections.

Here are the inspection scores and violations for restaurants within the city limits of Arlington for March 27th - April 1st, 2022. A score of 100 is a perfect score and 70 is considered to be extremely poor. Reinspections will be conducted for restaurants that score 75 or less. If serious health and sanitation violations are considered an imminent health hazard, the restaurant will be closed until the identified health hazard has been mitigated.
