Check the shelves: Here’s why Topo Chico will be in short supply in the U.S.
There’s nothing like enjoying a crisp Topo Chico alongside a basket of chips and queso. But unfortunately, Texans may have to find a new refreshment for the time being.
Coca-Cola, Topo Chico’s parent company, confirmed to the Star-Telegram’s news partner WFAA, that the sparkling mineral water will be in short supply in the U.S. for months to come.
Why is there a Topo Chico shortage?
Topo Chico mineral water is sourced from the Cerro Del Topo Chico spring in Monterrey, Mexico. The facility in Mexico is undergoing an upgrade to the product’s well, which will stop production and distribution of the glass bottled beverage.
A Topo Chico shortage happened before in 2022 due to high consumer demand and a shortage of the raw materials used to produce the mineral water. This time is different; the shortage is due to maintenance reasons.
How long will there be a Topo Chico shortage?
A spokesperson confirmed to WFAA that the halt in production and shortage will last until summer with hopes to bring the beverage back in stock by July.
Can you still find Topo Chico in Texas?
Just because production and distribution is paused, doesn’t mean the product is completely gone.
Businesses that already have a hoard of Topo Chico mineral water can continue selling it.
So, consumers can still enjoy the beverage where they can find the last of the supply.
What about other Topo Chico products?
Coca-Cola confirmed that only the sparkling mineral water product from Topo Chico is experiencing a shortage.
Other Topo Chico beverages, like alcoholic seltzers or Sabores fruit waters, are being produced and distributed as normal.
