Dallas filmmaker to discuss Oscar-nominated film at North Texas theater

A local filmmaker will discuss his Oscar-nominated film at a North Texas movie theater next month.

The Texas Theatre is hosting two screenings of Clint Bentley’s “Train Dreams” at its Dallas movie house on March 1. The film is up for four trophies at the 98th Academy Awards on March 15.

Bentley, who is based in Dallas, directed and co-wrote the film based on Denis Johnson’s novella of the same name.

The filmmaker will participate in a Q&A for the film after a 5 p.m. screening. He will also stick around to introduce the film before a 7:45 p.m. screening.

Tickets for both screenings, which will be projected in 35mm, are available now.

More on ‘Train Dreams’

Bentley co-wrote “Train Dreams” with Fort Worth native Greg Kwedar.

The duo are creative partners, who co-write every film together but trade off directing duties. Kwedar directed their first film “Transpecos” in 2016, followed by Bentley helming “Jockey” in 2021 and Kwedar back behind the camera for 2024’s “Sing Sing.”

Last year the duo landed Best Adapted Screenplay honors for their work on “Sing Sing.” The film was also nominated for Best Original Song and Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role.

The duo landed Best Adapted Screenplay nominations again for “Train Dreams.” The film is also nominated for Best Picture, Best Cinematography and Best Original Song.

“Train Dreams” first played the Sundance Film Festival in January 2025.

The film was quickly acquired by Netflix later that month and set for release in November. Ahead of its wide release, “Train Dreams” kicked off Fort Worth’s 19th annual Lone Star Film Festival in October.

“Train Dreams” is streaming on Netflix.
