This local music spot is featured in Taylor Sheridan’s new CBS show ‘The Road’
Fort Worth plays a crucial role in Taylor Sheridan’s new music competition series “The Road.”
Sheridan serves as executive producer on the CBS series, which follows 12 emerging musicians as they compete as opening acts for Keith Urban at music venues across the country. The crowd at each show votes on their favorite openers, and then it’s up to Urban and executive producer Blake Shelton to decide on who’s going home.
The winning musician will get a record deal, a spot at Stagecoach Music Festival and $250,000.
“The Road” premiered Sunday, Oct. 19, and its first episode is set in the Fort Worth Stockyards at Tannahill’s Tavern & Music Hall. Here’s what to know.
‘The Road’ stops by Fort Worth
While “The Road” premiered in October, the episode was filmed in Cowtown in early March.
Glimpses of the Stockyards can be seen throughout the episode, including Mule Alley, the Stockyards sign and the Fort Worth Herd cattle drive. The inside and outside of Tannahill’s is also featured heavily in the episode.
Several contestants shouted out the venue, Texas and Fort Worth throughout the night.
“It’s a thrill to be at Tannahill’s, where the beer is cold and delicious, and the folks are so warm and kind and delicious in a different way,” contestant Forrest McCurren told the crowd.
In a video with the Fort Worth Film Commission, “The Road” executive producer Lee Metzger said they began in Fort Worth because it felt like the best possible place to start a show like this.
The city’s authenticity and love of country music played a factor, and starting the show in Fort Worth gave it a “real feel of America.”
“We’re really hoping that we could bring that flavor of Fort Worth to the audiences around America, so they get a chance to see for themselves what we saw in person,” Metzger said.
