Sam Elliott, Abraham Alexander to be honored at Lone Star Film Festival Gala
“Landman” star Sam Elliott and Oscar nominee Abraham Alexander will both be honored at this year’s Lone Star Film Festival Gala.
The 19th annual event, presented by the festival and the Fort Worth Film Commission, will be held at Bowie House in the Cultural District on Nov. 7. Before the gala, the Lone Star Film Festival will run from Oct. 30 to Nov. 5.
Gala tickets, which also includes full access to the festival, are on sale now and start at $600. The starting price to reserve a 10-person table is $10,000 and there are higher subsequent tiers that offer better proximity to the stage.
Proceeds from the gala benefit the Johnny Langdon Film Education Initiative, which provides film education programs to adults and high school students interested in cinema. Find all tickets here.
Here’s a look at what honors Elliott and Alexander will pick up in November.
Sam Elliott to receive award named for Bill Paxton
Elliott will receive the “Bill Paxton Achievement in Film Award,” which is named in honor of the late Fort Worth native and celebrates actors and filmmakers whose careers “embody bold, risk-taking artistry.”
Past recipients include Luke Wilson, Paul Schrader, Jeff Nichols, Jane Seymour, Cybill Shepherd, Malcolm McDowell and Tim Blake Nelson.
“Sam Elliott’s storied career, especially his iconic contributions to the Western genre, resonates deeply with a festival rooted in a city so closely tied to Western heritage,” said Chad Mathews, executive director of the Lone Star Film Society, in a news release.
Elliott’s honor is apt timing, since the gala will occur just over a week before his latest project releases.
The 81-year-old actor is playing Billy Bob Thornton’s father in “Landman” season 2, which premieres on Paramount+ on Nov. 16. The series filmed in and around Fort Worth over the spring and summer months.
Elliott is best known for his roles in “1883,” “Tombstone,” “Road House,” “The Big Lebowski” and the 2018 version of “A Star is Born.”
Abraham Alexander to receive Stephen Bruton Award
Alexander will receive the “Stephen Bruton Award,” which is named in honor of the late Fort Worth musician and celebrates musicians with significant ties to film.
Past recipients include Charley Crockett, Ryan Bingham, Pat Green, Terry Allen, Lyle Lovett, Willie Nelson and T Bone Burnett.
“We’re proud to partner with the Lone Star Film Society, which consistently honors the industry’s best, for the annual gala,” said Taylor Hardy, Fort Worth Film Commissioner. “This year is particularly special as we celebrate Fort Worth’s own Abraham Alexander, and welcome back Sam Elliott to celebrate his achievements in acting, including work on ‘1883’ and ‘Landman’ season two, filmed in Fort Worth.”
Born in Greece, Alexander has been living and working in Fort Worth for more than a decade.
He collaborated with the Black Pumas’ Adrian Quesada on the song “Like a Bird” for the film “Sing Sing,” which played at the 2024 Lone Star Film Festival. Alexander and Quesada were nominated for “Best Original Song” at the 97th Academy Awards earlier this year.
Alexander released his debut album “SEA/SONS” in 2023 and is working on his sophomore record.
