Miley Cyrus, Coldplay, others sing tributes to Foo Fighters’ Taylor Hawkins across globe
The music world and beyond continues to react to the death of Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, including Miley Cyrus during a show in Brazil.
Hawkins, 50, was found dead on Friday. He was born in Fort Worth in 1972 before his family moved to California in 1976.
Cyrus was one of several acts who dedicated moments of their concert to Hawkins, who died in Bogota, Columbia, where the band was touring. Coldplay dedicated the song “Everglow” to Hawkins at a show in Monterrey, Mexico, and Liam Gallagher dedicated “Live Forever” at Royal Albert Hall in London.
The tributes from rock and entertainment royalty flooded social media throughout the weekend, including from Mick Jagger, Conan O’Brien, Pearl Jam, and First Lady Jill Biden, who called Hawkins “a ferocious drummer, dedicated father, and dear friend gone far too soon.”
“So incredibly sad to hear of the passing of Taylor Hawkins,” Jagger said in a post on Twitter. “My thoughts are with his family and the band at this time.”
Cyrus wiped away tears as she sang “Angels Like You” to a massive crowd at Lollapalooza Brazil with an image of Hawkins shining on a screen behind the stage.
“Still processing the terrible news about Taylor Hawkins. Such a wonderful and crazily talented man,” O’Brien said on Twitter. “Thinking now about his family, his band, and his good friend Dave.”
Guns ‘N Roses singer Axl Rose expressed the sentiments of many, calling Hawkins a “great guy, drummer, and family man.”
“Was always great to see him! Was looking forward to seeing him [and] everyone in Daytona,” Rose said. “Truly saddened. My deepest condolences to his family, the Foo Fighters [and] their fans.”
Pearl Jam’s Matt Cameron said through the band’s official Twitter account: “Long live Taylor Hawkins. He enriched my life as a dear friend & fellow musician. He brought so much joy to the world of music, he will be forever missed. Our deepest condolences to Alison, Shane, Annabelle & Everleigh Hawkins & the entire Foo Fighters family.”
