Brighten your day with a colorful visit to ‘Butterflies in the Garden’ in Fort Worth

Want to see one of the largest exhibits of live, exotic butterflies around?

Then check out “Butterflies in the Garden,” which is returning to the Fort Worth Botanic Garden’s Rainforest Conservatory, starting Friday, Feb. 25 through April 10.

Visitors can walk among hundreds of butterflies from around the world among lush foliage and tropical flowers, and maybe even have one land on their shoulders, according to Botanic Garden executive vice president Bob Byers.

The expansive exhibits also offers educational opportunities for those of all ages, such as the life cycle of the butterfly.

Central American butterflies will be featured, but ones from North and South America, Africa and Asia will also be included.

Special gift shop items will also be available.

The six-week exhibit will be open daily, including Sundays, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets for timed entries are now available online at brit.org, and can be purchased at the door beginning Feb. 25.

Dallas Stars honor Mexican-American heritage with ‘Noche Mexicana’

Join the Dallas Stars as they celebrate Mexican-American heritage and culture in North Texas with “Noche Mexicana,” Wednesday, March 2 when they take on the Los Angeles Kings at 7:30 p.m.

Noche Mexicana will feature pregame performances at PNC Plaza outside the American Airlines Center and inside the arena.

Tejano singer Monica Saldivar will perform along with Mexico 2000 Ballet Folklorico.

Saldivar, a native of Grand Prairie, was named “Best New Female Artist” at the 2020 Tejano Music Awards. Mexico 2000 Ballet Folklorico offers dance classes and programs, and has presented more than 800 performances across the Metroplex since it began in 1997.

Tortas Insurgente, an authentic Mexican Antojitos restaurant, will be serving a custom Dallas Stars quesadilla at the Party on PNC Plaza.

Also, the first 5,000 fans at American Airlines Center will receive a “lucha libre” wrestling mask.

The Modern reflects on its 20th year with retrospective exhibit

The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth celebrates its 20th year in the Tadao Ando building with a showcase of its permanent collections grouped by themes and styles onto separate floors.

“Recent Acquisitions 2002-2002” opens Saturday, Feb. 26 and runs through April 24.

The first floor focuses on abstract art, along with pop and minimalism. Andy Warhol, one of the pioneers of the pop art movement, is featured along with Takashi Murakami.

Portraits and landscapes, along with videos and works on paper, comprise works on the second floor.

Nicholas Nixon’s “The Brown Sisters,” which features 45 photographs of his wife and her three siblings taken annually starting in 1975, will be on view for the first time in four years.

Wangechi Mutu’s “The Seated III, 2019,” overlooks the pond.

The Modern is open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday and Saturday-Sunday, and 10 a.m.-8 p.m. on Wednesdays. For tickets, go to the modern.org or call 817-738-9215.
