This season of ‘The Bachelor’ features a North Texan. Here’s how to watch the premiere

ABC’s reality dating competition show “The Bachelor” is back for its 29th season, and this year, a North Texan woman is competing for the affections of a Houston resident.

Who is on ‘The Bachelor’ this season?

30-year-old Grant Ellis is the chosen Bachelor for the season. He previously appeared on season 21 of “The Bachelorette,” the female version of the series, where he was eliminated before the hometown dates (also known as semi-finals). He currently resides in Houston, though he was born and raised in New Jersey.

Ellis is the show’s second Black Bachelor. He currently works as a day trader and used to play professional basketball in the Dominican Republic. “As the Bachelor, Ellis is eager to embark on a journey filled with romance, adventure, and genuine connections,” his bio on ABC’s press site states.

This year, one of the contestants vying for Ellis’ affection is Rebekah Garrett, a 31-year-old ICU nurse from Dallas. She is the only participant from the Lone Star state. Garrett’s bio on ABC’s press site says she is “looking for someone to travel the world and start a family with, and is very interested in meeting someone gentle-hearted,” and she loves animals and playing Scrabble.

How does ‘The Bachelor’ work?

“The Bachelor” features a man who dates a large group of women over the course of nine weeks. This season will begin with 25 interested ladies. Each week includes a “rose ceremony,” where the Bachelor gives red roses to the women he wishes to keep in the competition. Women who do not receive a rose are sent home. This continues until the Bachelor finds the woman he wants to propose to.

The first few episodes of the show start in Agoura Hills, Calif. The season premiere will show Ellis meeting all 25 women and will feature a segment on first impressions. The first eliminations of the competition will happen during a rose ceremony in the premiere episode.

The cast will visit various U.S. and international destinations. The final four contestants get to go on “hometown dates” where the women show Ellis where they grew up and introduce him to their families.
