It’s not ‘Yellowstone,’ but another Taylor Sheridan series drops new episodes this weekend

North Texas native Taylor Sheridan’s latest television series premieres its newest season this weekend.

“Mayor of Kingstown” season 3 premieres this Sunday on Paramount+. The series stars Jeremy Renner and is co-created by Sheridan and Hugh Dillon.

The synopsis for the show reads, “The McLusky family are power brokers tackling themes of systemic racism, corruption and inequality in Kingstown, Michigan, where the business of incarceration is the only thriving industry.”

Here’s what’s in store for fans in season 3:

“A series of explosions rock Kingstown and its citizens, as a new face of the Russian mob sets up shop in the city, and a drug war rages inside and outside prison walls. The pressure is on Mike McLusky (Jeremy Renner) to end the war but things get complicated when a familiar face from his incarcerated past threatens to undermine the Mayor’s attempts to keep the peace among all factions.”

“Mayor of Kingstown” season 3 is the first project back for Renner, since breaking over 30 bones in a snowplow accident on New Year’s Day 2023.

Renner, who lives in Nevada, was crushed by his snowplow while trying to stop the vehicle from running over his nephew. The 1,400 pound vehicle instead hit Renner and broke his ribs, eye socket, knee and more.

After recovering from the accident, “The Avengers” star has been busy.

Renner has the third season of “Kingstown” premiering this weekend and also this week signed to star in the movie “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.” The actor even has new music on the way.

Along with Renner, “Mayor of Kingstown” season 3 also stars Hugh Dillon, Taylor Handley, Emma Laird, Tobi Bamtefa, Derek Webster, Nishi Munshi, Hamish Allan-Headley and Michael Beach.

The series is the second time Renner and Sheridan have worked together after 2017’s action-thriller, “Wind River.”

As one Sheridan-created show gears up to premiere this weekend, the filmmaker currently has four more in production.

The Billy Bob Thornton and Demi Moore starring “Landman” has been filming in and around Fort Worth since February. “Lioness” season 2 starring Zoe Saldana, Nicole Kidman and Morgan Freeman just began production in Fort Worth last week.

Up north in Montana, cameras have been rolling on the final episodes of “Yellowstone” season 5 since earlier this month. Finally in Oklahoma, the Sylvester Stallone starring “Tulsa King” has been filming its second season since April.

“Mayor of Kingstown” season 3 premieres Sunday on Paramount+. Fans can catch up on the show’s first two seasons via the same streaming service.
