State Fair of Texas announces winners of annual Big Tex food competition
State Fair of Texas ends this Sunday. Here’s what you need to know if you go.
Yabba Dabba NO! Why does this State Fair of Texas shrimp po’boy come with Fruity Pebbles?
The State Fair of Texas opens this month, Sept. 30, and Fun Biz Fair Food has its culinary concoctions ready to serve including Angus beef sourced right from Texas.
Fun Biz runs food stands at events across the country, including The Minnesota Stair Fair in St. Paul, Frontier Days in Cheyenne and The Los Angeles Country Fair in Pomona.
This year the fair food culinary creators will return to the State Fair of Texas, bringing fried food favorites like fried pickles and Oreos along with unique menu items.
Some of Fun Biz’s foods include:
- Fruity Pebble Shrimp Po’Boi — A classic shrimp po’boy topped with Fruity Pebbles cereal.
- Chicken Donut Sandwich — Fried chicken with lettuce, tomato and a special sauce all sandwiched between two glazed donuts.
- Cucumber Mint Lemonade — Fresh squeezed lemonade with infused cucumber and mint.
- The Smokestack — A seasoned waffle hash brown with pulled pork, elote, Oaxaca cheeses and spices. Paired with fresh made crunch slaw, French fried onion crisps, jalapeños and a sweet and tangy barbecue sauce.
Fun Biz serves locally raised beef for all of its items, including its slow-smoked brisket and hamburgers. Nate Janousek, Fun Biz Fair Food founder, said he always brings meat from local sources to the fairs and events Fun Biz serves.
Last month, ten finalists for the 2022 “Big Tex Choice Awards” were announced. This year’s winners are the Fried Charcuterie Board, Peanut Butter Paradise and the Cha-Cha Chata.
