June is Pride Month in the United States, a time to celebrate generations of LGBTQ people both past and present.

Pride Month is celebrated in June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising, which was a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States. The first Pride march was held in New York City in June 1970, on the first anniversary of the start of the Stonewall Uprising.

In a proclamation issued May 31, President Joe Biden recognized June as LGBTQI+ Pride Month, recognizing the community’s fight for justice, inclusion, and equality.

“This month, we honor the resilience of LGBTQI+ people, who are fighting to live authentically and freely,” Biden said in the proclamation statement. “We reaffirm our belief that LGBTQI+ rights are human rights. And we recommit to delivering protections, safety, and equality to LGBTQI+ families so that everyone can realize the full promise of America.”

Here are ways to celebrate Pride Month with your friends, family or chosen family in and around Fort Worth and Dallas this year.
