The Fort Worth Stock Show Syndicate is hosting its first barbecue competition and music festival this Saturday.

The Syndicate Smokedown will take place at Panther Island Pavilion, along Trinity River near North Henderson Street, offering residents a chance to kick back and enjoy barbecue and live music.

Since it was founded in 1980, the syndicate’s goal is to make the dreams of young livestock exhibitors come true through educational scholarships. More than $2.5 million in scholarships have been handed out over the years.

The barbecue competition kicks off at noon with pitmasters competing for a $12,000 prize in three categories: chicken, pork spare ribs and brisket. Entering into the contest will set teams back $250. Hopefuls can sign up on the syndicate’s website.

As for the tunes, live music will be playing throughout the day from Kyle Park, Cory Morrow, Josh Grider and Drew Kennedy of Topo Chico Cowboys, The Randy Brown Show, Lauren Corzine and Raised Right Men.

Three tiers of tickets are on sale now for the smokedown:

  • Smokedown GA ($25): Admission to the smokedown and access to live music performances.
  • BBQ Time ($40): Includes a barbecue plate and two drink tickets.
  • VIP-Bone ($150): Includes an open bar ticket and free VIP parking.

All proceeds will go to the syndicate’s Jim Bob Norman Scholarship fund. The event is sponsored by Standard Meat, D&M Leasing, Texas A&M University and Freedom Power Sports.
