Major sporting events take center stage over the next week across the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

Here is your guide to all the action.

Texas Rangers home opener

Baseball is back ... finally. After an extended lockout by Major League Baseball, the players and owners finally reached a new labor agreement March 10.

The start of the season was pushed back one week, but all 162 games for each team will be played.

The Texas Rangers opened their season Friday, April 8 at Toronto to begin a three-game series, but will play their home opener Monday, April 11 at Globe Life Field in Arlington against the Colorado Rockies. First pitch is set for 3:05 p.m.

Taylor Hearn, who grew up about 50 miles to the northeast in Royse City, is scheduled to start Monday’s home opener.

Tickets for Monday’s game start at $60. Go to mlb.com/rangers/tickets for more information. For parking and other ballpark information, go to mlb.com/rangers/ballpark/guide.

NCAA women’s gymnastics championships

Fort Worth will be home to the NCAA women’s gymnastics championships for the fifth time. This year’s two-day event is scheduled for April 14 and 16 at Dickies Arena.

The gymnastics championships feature the country’s top eight teams, as well as four all-around competitors and 16 event specialists who were not members of a qualifying team.

This year’s field of teams consists of Oklahoma, Utah, Alabama, Minnesota, Florida, Michigan, Missouri and Auburn.

The first session starts at noon Thursday, April 14, followed by Session 2 at 5 p.m.

The finals are scheduled to begin at noon Saturday, April 16.

Mavericks, Stars make playoff push

The Dallas Mavericks and Dallas Stars will also be in the spotlight as they continue their drive for the playoffs.

The Mavericks, who are in contention for the No. 3 playoff seed in the Western Conference, take on the San Antonio Spurs at 8:30 p.m. Sunday, April 10 at American Airlines Center in their regular season finale.

The Mavs will open the NBA playoffs at home as long as they finish among the top four seeds.

Go to mavs.com/tickets and keep an eye out for playoff tickets once they become available.

The Stars, meanwhile, have not clinched an NHL playoff spot but are definitely in the hunt with three weeks remaining in the regular season.

They have three games scheduled at American Airlines Center over the next week, beginning Tuesday, April 12 against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Stars also host Minnesota on Thursday and San Jose on Saturday.

Go to nhl.com/stars/tickets to buy tickets.

Championship boxing in Arlington

AT&T Stadium will host another huge boxing match Saturday, April 16 when Errol Spence Jr. of DeSoto and Yordenis Ugas square off in a welterweight championship showdown.

Spence, who has recovered from a Dallas car accident in October 2019 that left him in critical condition, was expected to take on Manny Pacquiao in 2021 but sustained a fractured orbital bone during training and was forced to withdraw.

Ugas stepped in Spence’s place and upset the legendary boxer in August to claim the WBA crown.

Spence, who has defeated former champions Danny Garcia and Shawn Porter in his last two fights, holds the IBF and WBC titles entering Saturday’s bout.

The six-fight card begins at 5 p.m. For tickets, go to attstadium.com or seatgeek.com.

You can also enjoy the boxing from your couch on Showtime PPV starting at 8 p.m. Cost is $74.99.
