After Reata Restaurant announced it would relocate from its downtown Fort Worth location, readers took to social media with their speculations for why Reata, among several other businesses, have left Sundance Square in recent years.

The beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic proved particularly hard on restaurants that had thrived in downtown for many years, some decades.

In a survey published by the Star-Telegram on Wednesday asking how often readers visit downtown Fort Worth, 71 out of 121 participants said they visit a few times a year. Restaurants were what most participants, 62, said brought them to downtown.

Parking was the number one reason most participants, 47 out of 118, said they don’t visit downtown often. Lack of restaurants and accessibility were the second and third most chosen reasons.
