On the Course: Alonzo Mourning on transitioning from basketball to golf
Alonzo Mourning has been a competing sportsman for 30 years. It all started with basketball when the former Miami Heat star was only 8 years old. Now, he is competing on the golf course.
DETOUR met Alonzo at the Original Tee Golf Classic 2022, at the Wild Turkey Golf Club in Hamburg, NJ. The tournament was created to celebrate African American golfers and aims to bring together golf enthusiasts from different paths of life, to compete, network and forge connections.
“Being able to use golf as a supplement [for basketball] has been a blessing,” Mourning told DETOUR . “So I stay away from anything that can mess up my golf swing.”
