Any idea that the Dallas Cowboys might stay at home for training camp now that they have moved into their new headquarters at the Star in Frisco can be put to rest.

The team has long maintained an interest in continuing to train in California and have put some contractual substance behind their words with a two-year contract extension with the city of Oxnard, starting this summer.

The deal, which was unanimously agreed to by the Oxnard City council during a meeting last week, also includes a city option for 2019 and 2020 that could potentially have the Cowboys training in Oxnard for the next four years.

It is free for fans to attend training camp and parking will be cheaper this year.

It will cost $10 on weekdays and $15 on weekends. Fans paid $20 to park last year.

This will be the 12th time since 2001 that the Cowboys have held at least part of their training camp in Oxnard, Calif. It is the sixth consecutive year and seventh in the past eight years they have trained at the River Ridge Sports Complex.

This will be the first one since 2006 without Tony Romo as the starting quarterback. He has left the NFL to join CBS Sports and Dak Prescott, who came to camp last year as the third-string backup before taking advantage of injuries to Romo and Kellen Moore to fashion the finest season of any rookie quarterback in NFL history, is the new face of the franchise.

The Cowboys are tentatively scheduled to arrive in Oxnard on July 22 and the team will hold its first practice July 24.

They will leave for Canton, Ohio, on Aug. 3 to play in the annual Pro Football Hall of Fame game against the Arizona Cardinals Aug. 4.

The team will resume practice in Oxnard Aug. 7 after watching owner Jerry Jones get inducted as a member of the 2017 Hall of Fame class.

The Cowboys play the Los Angeles Rams in the second preseason game at the Los Angeles Coliseum Aug. 12 before returning again to Oxnard for a handful of practices.

They will officially break camp in Oxnard on Aug. 18 and play their third preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts at AT&T Stadium on Aug. 19.

They will then resume training camp practices at The Star in Frisco.
