Fort Worth LB expected to sign with Longhorns this week
Get to know Fort Worth Eastern Hills linebacker Byron Hobbs, who is expected to sign with Texas this week during the early signing period.
This is the first year of the early signing period, which allows recruits the opportunity to sign their National Letter of Intent between Dec. 20-22 instead of waiting for National Signing Day on Feb. 7.
Byron Hobbs
High School: Fort Worth Eastern Hills
Position: Outside linebacker
Size: 6-4, 215 pounds
Rated: Three-star recruit; No. 425 player overall in 2018; No. 29 OLB overall; No. 56 player in Texas per 247Sports
Committed to: Texas
Others considered: Arkansas, Baylor, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, TCU.
Can make plays in the open field, but prized as a pass rusher. Expected to keep growing, so don’t be surprised if he moves to defensive end. Hobbs verbally committed to Texas last spring after a strong showing at recruiting camps produced a high volume of offers.
“He plays the game with a serious attitude,” says Eastern Hills coach Tracy Simien. “He can run and jump and do all those athletic things with anyone, but his biggest attribute is his mental approach. He’s a no-nonsense, ‘I’m going to impose my will on you’ type of guy. Texas is getting a real special kid.”
