Mansfield Legacy running back’s huge game leads to victory over Rider
Why Legacy won: Grant Johnson rushed for 203 yards and three touchdowns, all three in the first half, to lead the Broncos to a season-opening victory against the Raiders in a non-district game Friday night at R.L. Anderson Stadium. Johnson scored on two short runs to put Legacy ahead 14-7 early in the second quarter. His third score, midway through the second quarter, came on a 69-yard burst up the middle as the Broncos built a 28-7 lead.
Key players: Johnson’s backfield mate, quarterback Cam Clark, passed for 147 yards and had touchdown passes of 47 and 41 yards. Brandon Bolton of Rider rushed for 104 yards. His six-yard touchdown run with 19 seconds to go before halftime cut the Legacy lead to 28-14.
Key stat: Seven of Johnson’s 23 carries went for more than 10 yards.
