Mansfield names Daniel Maberry new football head coach
It’s been an interesting month for the football program at Mansfield High, capped off with the promotion of offensive coordinator Daniel Maberry as the Tigers’ new head coach.
The hiring of Maberry, and Channon Hall as Mansfield Summit’s new head coach, were listed on the agenda for Tuesday night’s Mansfield ISD board meeting. Hall’s hiring from Killeen Shoemaker was reported on Friday.
Maberry will lead the Tigers as they move to District 4-6A this fall to compete with the Arlington ISD schools. UIL realignment was Feb. 1.
Jeff Hulme left Mansfield High to take over as head coach at Waco Midway on Feb. 4. Mansfield followed that up by naming four-time state champion Steve Lineweaver interim head coach on Feb. 9.
Finding a successor to Hulme was expected to take four to six months. But Mansfield quickly promoted Mayberry.
Maberry has been in the Mansfield school district for 18 years and joined Mansfield High as an assistant football and track coach when the current campus opened in 2002. He won a Best Coach award at the school in 2010. Before moving to Mansfield High, Maberry coached at Worley Middle School.
Last season, the Tigers made their deepest playoff run in program history, to the Class 6A state semifinals. They finished 12-3 and won their first district title in 42 years. Maberry led an offensive attack that averaged 38.7 points, 425 total yards and 289 yards rushing per game.
