Bracketology: TCU drops despite upset of No. 7 West Virginia
TCU basketball has had a really up and down week.
Last Saturday, the Horned Frogs lost another very close game, this time at Kansas State by five.
On ESPN’s Big Monday, though, Jamie Dixon’s team picked up its biggest win of the season by defeating No. 7 West Virginia, 82-73, in front of a raucous crowd at Schollmaier Arena. The victory over a ranked opponent helped keep TCU’s tournament chances alive, and could spark a late-season run.
Unfortunately, that signature win was not enough to offset the loss to the unranked Wildcats, as TCU dropped one spot in the latest bracketology projections from ESPN’s Joe Lunardi.
The analyst now forecasts TCU as a No. 7 seed in the East Region. According to Lunardi, they will matchup with Providence, a No. 10 seed.
Despite the fierce competition across the Big 12, which might be the deepest conference in all of college basketball, the league’s number of projected tournament teams has leveled off a bit.
Big 12 programs Lunardi predicts will make the NCAA Tournament
Kansas: No. 5 in the AP poll; No. 2 seed in the Midwest Region
West Virginia: No. 7 in the AP poll; No. 3 seed in the South Region
Oklahoma: No. 12 in the AP Poll; No. 3 seed in the West Region
Texas Tech: No. 14 in the AP poll, No. 4 seed in the East region
TCU: Unranked; No. 7 seed in the East Region
Texas: Unranked; No. 9 seed in the West Region
Next up for TCU is a trip to Nashville to take on Vanderbilt (3 p.m. on ESPN2). Its next Big 12 game will take place next Tuesday when the Frogs head to Stillwater to face Oklahoma State(6 p.m. on ESPNU).
