TCU’s Wade not yet full speed, Baker injury still being evaluated

Leadoff hitter Austen Wade is not full speed yet but will continue to play, and first baseman Luken Baker has not tried any baseball activity yet, TCU coach Jim Schlossnagle said Monday.

Wade is 6-for-16 with four runs scored in four games since returning from a bruised knee suffered May 7 when he hit the wall on a slide in foul territory chasing a pop fly at Lupton Stadium. He homered last week at Cal and played in right field in all three games.

“I won’t say he’s 100 percent. I think there are days he’s still sore. But he’s close,” Schlossnagle said. “He’s certainly well enough to play. I think he’s running 80, 85 percent. He swung the bat well up there. He’s good. He’s good to go.”

Wade leads the team in hitting at .353 and hits with 67.

Baker, sidelined since May 12 with an injury to his left arm, will not travel with the team to Oklahoma City for the Big 12 tournament so he can continue to do rehab work in Fort Worth, Schlossnagle said.

Baker will meet with Dr. John Conway at the end of the week for an evaluation, Schlossnagle said.
