Chisholm Trail speed needs resident input

Star-Telegram

Grumbles over the Chisholm Trail Parkway speed limit grew into full complaints as frustrated drivers continue to use the toll road for their daily commute.

The road was what Fort Worth wanted, the speed limit not so much.

Speed limits of 70 and 60 mph on 24 miles of the 28-mile toll road from Interstate 30 to Johnson County are generally accepted. But on the northernmost four miles, the limit drops to 50 mph, causing commuters grief.

Drivers complain about that portion of road, calling it a speed trap or just a nuisance. There is even a Facebook group and a Twitter account.

City leaders say the lower speed helps preserve the surrounding neighborhoods from environmental harm, but they’ve started a conversation on possibly changing the speed limit.

As much as drivers ask for a speed limit change, it all boils down to what the residents of the surrounding neighborhoods want.

They have every right to weigh in on the conversation and for the city to listen to them.
