Storms to return to North Texas overnight
Storms should roll in early Friday morning, after sunny skies and breezy weather today, the National Weather Service said.
The high today is expected to reach 84 degrees, with wind gusts up to 20 mph.
Chances for showers and thunderstorms after midnight are 50 percent, according to the weather service. Meteorologist Jesse Moore said the overnight storms could drop hail up to an inch in diameter or larger in some areas.
Forecasters also are calling for a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms between 1 p.m. Friday and 1 a.m. Saturday, with a high of 81 and wind gusts up to 25 mph.
“There will be threats for damaging wind, large hail and maybe even a tornado or two,” Moore said.
Saturday should be partly sunny, with a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8 a.m. and a high of 81, according to the weather service.
Moore said the storms on Friday and Saturday could drop between 2 and 2.5 inches of rain.
Sunday should be sunny but slightly cooler with a high of 74, according to the weather service. Rain chances will reappear in the forecast Sunday night and Monday.
Moore said precipitation is above normal this April, but the 4.53 inches of rain the area has received isn’t close to the 1922 record of 17.64 inches.
