Burton breaks out ‘Stand for Life’ boots to symbolize her victory
Republican Konni Burton of Colleyville made sure people couldn’t miss the symbolism of her being sworn in Tuesday as Tarrant County’s newest state senator.
In a Facebook post hours before the Legislature convened in Austin, Burton declared, “No more pink shoe drama for SD10!”
It was a reference to the pink Mizuno running shoes worn by Wendy Davis when the Fort Worth Democrat represented Senate District 10 and conducted a 13-hour filibuster against a restrictive abortion bill.
Burton sported a pair of boots emblazoned with the motto, “Stand for Life.”
In a post that generated a buzz on social media, Burton wrote: “Thank you again, for this honor of representing you! It’s a new day and because of that, I wanted to step out and represent that in a visible way. No more pink shoe drama for SD 10!”
Davis has not appeared publicly since her November loss to Republican Greg Abbott in the governor’s race. Abbott will be inaugurated next Tuesday.
