The capital murder trial of Eddie Routh, an Iraq War veteran accused of killing former Navy SEAL Chris Kyle and a friend almost a year ago, is now set to begin May 5.
The trial had been scheduled for October but was postponed when defense attorneys asked for more time.
Routh, 26, of Lancaster, is accused of shooting Chris Kyle, 38, and Chad Littlefield, 35, both of Midlothian, on Feb. 2 at the shooting range at Rough Creek Lodge. The lodge is about 77 miles southwest of Fort Worth.
Friends told investigators that Kyle and Littlefield had taken Routh to the gun range hoping to help him deal with post-traumatic stress disorder.
Kyle is considered one of the deadliest snipers in U.S. military history. He co-wrote the bestselling memoir American Sniper.
Routh’s trial is scheduled for 266th District Court in Stephenville. A pretrial hearing is set for 9 a.m. Feb. 18.
