Couple die in murder-suicide on Johnson County road, police say

A man fatally shot his wife in a car in Johnson County early Tuesday before killing himself, according to officials.

Joann Gaytan, 34, and Marco Gaytan, 32, both died of a gunshot wound to the head, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office. Joann Gaytan’s death was a homicide and her husband’s was a suicide, the medical examiner’s office ruled.

Burleson police had been dispatched about 1 a.m. to the 1800 block of Farm Road 917, near Joshua, on a report of a car accident, police spokeswoman DeAnna Phillips said. When they arrived, they found the Gaytans wounded inside the vehicle.

Joann Gaytan was pronounced dead at the scene. Marco Gaytan was taken to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, where he died about an hour later.

The medical examiner listed a Joshua address for Joann Gaytan. An address was not listed for her husband.
